Peace Is Right at This Moment

Alexander was an intelligent student of the ancient Greek philosopher and scientist, Aristotle. When he was crowned as an emperor, he told his teacher:

- I will occupy Egypt and Turkey.

Aristotle asked:

- And then?

Alexander responded:

- After that, I can have a peaceful and deep sleep.

Aristotle smiled:

- My son, why don’t you sleep peacefully tonight?

This’s a very impressive story I read in the book “Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East” I read 6 years ago. There’re a lot of times in life, we always think that we’ll wait until we have something or get something done, we’ll have peace of mind. But the fact is there are always things going on in life and there’re a lot of things really out of our control. By the time you have the thing you want, you probably have other new things to worry about. Or maybe the things you wait for just never happen.

For the past 4 weeks, my life got super hectic, working on a full-time sales job and a business project. And there’re some points, I felt I lost my balance. But then I take a pause and realize “No, this’s not the way I used to be and not the way I want to be”. Whatever my work life gets, I cannot let it affect my personal life. After all, the goal of my life is to have a peaceful and happy life. And peace is right at this moment when you feel content with who you are and what you have.
